Sturdy and (relatively) unobtrusive
Jony Ive may be the worst thing that happened to Apple in the past twenty years. "Style first, functionality be damned!" might well be his motto. As much as I have liked my iMacs, putting I/O ports on the back of the unit was a design blunder. And stripping USB-A ports and SD card ports from the M-series iMacs simply made things worse.
This little unit provides the missing ports on the front of the computer, where they are more accessible. It's not terribly ugly, and more importantly, it attaches quite solidly to the iMac. It's well-cushioned, so it won't scratch the computer, but it is secure enough that I can insert cables and SD cards. I bought this over similar, cheaper units, because they looked rather flimsy, and I was not sure how well they would attach to my iMac. This unit does a nice job.
